I'm sure everyone by now has heard of the treasures in Nightfall where you can get golds, cash, purples, sometimes gems, etc. without a key. However, the rumor is that these reset every month per character, but sometimes you have to wait a little longer.

Well, it's been 3 months for my main character and they still haven't reset for her. Yet they've reset twice for all my other characters already. Now I did hear that it might be based on how often a character is played, but I haven't been on that account that much, as I've been working on my other one. So what's up with this?

It should automatically set, no matter what, every month like stated.

Anet has not stated HOW they reset. People ASSUME how it works, and do fairly well with it. Until Anet says HOW it works, we can do nothing more than guess. Based on assumptions made by the community after extensive testing, I have had no problems with it.

What is your suggestion? Fix something we don't even know to be broken? If anything, just ask Anet to tell us how the reset is calculated.

The whole "every month they reset" thing is just what everyone assumes is the factor, like the above poster says

Even so, this shouldn't be in Sardelac, it should be in Q&A if anything, but, imo, it should be a letter to ncsoft, not in a game suggestions forum

My suggestion is that they should be a steady reset. I don't know how they've reset twice for all characters but my main, which hasn't reset in 3 months. So I think it needs to have a better "schedule" if you will.

Maybe it isn't a schedule?

Maybe it has something to do with the rate your character is played? No one really knows.

Can a mod please remove this from Game Suggestions?

My suggestion is that there should be no reset at all. Then people can't bitch about not receiving enough free shit.

ANet should just deposit all the contents of the FREE chests into all character's inventories every 31 days to remove unnecessary confusion. I think that would be a fair solution.

I'm not saying for sure, but from my experience, if you don't wait a full month before clicking one, the reset time starts over. Since I've noticed this, I can open them every month on the day, so I'm reasonably sure it's true.

Also, if you try to open one before it's reset, it seems to count as an opening, and the next time you'll have worse drops.

How can you fix something that's not broken? ANet never told us exactly when these chests reset. People just assumed they reset every month. So until ANet tell us exactly when these chests are supposed to reset, none of us can say something is wrong with them.

It is believed that if you touch the chest before the month is up then you have to wait another month for it to be reset. So if you touch the chest a day early and nothing is there you know have to wait another month before it is reset. Once again that is what is believed.

Ya I am gonna have to agree with that.

Anet put them in their as a little reward for PvE players, they didn't HAVE to do it. It was a nice gesture that people have taken as something that ANet should fix because they don't like how it's set up. Just take it away, people will complain for a month or two then forget about it. >.<

Irrelevant though your post is, it's not your free goldie of the month service anyway. Drops get very lousy after a few months, it's all purples and cash drops are cut down to about 1/4th of the original drop or less, up to the point where it's no longer lucrative enough to bother with opening them. It's just a small gift to those who have bothered to advance more than 1 character and thus had less time to farm for cash.

Also I've heard this same story from lots of different people and it usually only happened to one of their characters while others were fine. I once opened treasures exactly a month after the previous ones and managed to open them all except on my ele, those were all empty and I knew I hadn't miscalculated because I had the date on paper. There were no differences between my ele and a few of the other characters that did open their treasures as I had hardly played any of them. Also another month later I still couldnt open my ele's treasures. Then about a few days back (which was after about a 3 month cooldown period) voila, I could open the treasures again on my ele. It's a complete mystery why this happens, but if it's not a random factor (more commonly referred to as a bug) I'll eat my ele's socks...

I love how these are somehow "free" which means we don't have to work our way there to them.

"Free" would mean it would be readily available in town with no effort at all.

How do you work your way to them??? Roll in a wurm? Dodge aggro for 2 minutes? Throw on a mediocre running build involving flame djinns haste, sprint, and storm chaser?

One question, how are you checking to see if there is anything in them? If you are opening them and then it says "there is nothing in here" you have opened it too soon and you now have to wait another 31 days(automatic reset). I used to do that too and i thought WTF!

you know, it would be nice to have the treasures reset once every 3-4 months making them drop golds and gems on the first run, then 50-50 golds and purps with reduced cash amount and the third time all grapes and even a more reduced cash amount, after that, its resets and here we go all over again

Plus it gets annoying trying it every month on each character, and then they only spawn purples and low cash and such. I do like your idea.

I heard that it is account based with drop rarity (ie if you open it on 1st char, then 2nd, then 3rd, you're going to get grapes your 2nd time around on 1st char)

And btw, you haven't answered as to whether you're checking them before the month is up(as that resets the timer) but I'm assuming you know about that since you've opened them multiple times on 2nd and 3rd chars.

Some weird bug for you? dunno, but I haven't had problems personally. Explanation would be good as to how they really work though.
